Interpreting Your Attachment Style Results

Based on your quiz results, you may primarily identify as having a secure, anxious, avoidant, or ambivalent attachment style. Depending on who you’re with, you may attach using different styles. An insecure attachment style isn’t a flaw. It’s an adaptation that once protected you, and knowing your go-to style is the first step toward attaching to others in a healthier, more secure way.

About This Quiz

This quiz was developed by Lori Jean Glass, founder of the PIVOT Process and author of #HealthyAdult, from the relational patterns PIVOT coaches have worked with since 2013. It presents 60 yes or no statements, 15 for each attachment style, and your responses build a picture of where you lean across all four. The quiz and the interpretation content on this page have been clinically reviewed by three licensed clinical social workers: Jennifer Plisko, Kiah Enriquez, and Cindy Finch.

The quiz is a self-reflection tool, not a clinical assessment or a diagnosis. If your results bring up more than you expected, a PIVOT coach can help you make sense of them.

Attachment Style Quiz FAQ

Is the attachment style quiz free?

Yes. The quiz is free, takes about 5 minutes, and there is no account to create. Your results are emailed to you with your personal chart.

How does the attachment style quiz work?

You respond yes or no to 60 short statements, 15 for each of the four attachment styles. Your responses build a score for each style, and the balance of those scores shows where you lean. Your results arrive by email with a chart of all four scores.

What are the four attachment styles?

This quiz measures secure, anxious, avoidant, and ambivalent attachment. Ambivalent is sometimes called an anxious-avoidant style, and some frameworks call it fearful-avoidant or disorganized attachment. It is a push-and-pull pattern of craving closeness while also fearing it. Most of us have a predominant style as our go-to and still attach in other ways with certain people.

Can my attachment style change?

Yes. Attachment styles aren't set in stone. They form early in life, and with awareness and practice you can learn to attach in healthier, more secure ways. That work is the heart of PIVOT's coaching and retreats.

Is this quiz a clinical assessment?

No. The quiz is a self-reflection tool built from PIVOT's coaching work, and the quiz and the content on this page have been clinically reviewed by three licensed clinical social workers. It is not a diagnosis. If you want to go deeper than a score, you can book a free discovery call with PIVOT.
